The hangover is undisputedly the funniest film from the last 5 years to come out of Hollywood, many have tried to recreate the comic writing of Jon Lucas and Scott Moore with bridesmaids as an example. Just two days before his marriage with Tracy Garner, Doug Billings, in the company of two friends: Phil Wenneck and Stu Price; and Tracy's eccentric brother, Alan, head out to party in Vegas. They rent a pricey villa at Caesar's and head for the rooftop to have a good time. Three of them later wake up with a hangover, unable to re-collect what exactly happened. With the villa in a wreck, they find that they have a baby in the closet; a grown tiger in the bathroom; Stu has a missing tooth and a hooker for a bride; and Doug is missing. Hilarious chaos results as the trio head out to re-trace their steps as well as try to locate Doug and bring him home in one piece before the wedding.
Alan( Zach Galifianakis) is now one of the big screens most lovable idiot/ man child and is also a cliché of most comedies such as Napoleon Dynamite, Jonny English and many more. Alan also plays the role of the slob who is perfectly happy wondering around in his underwear and oblivious to the state of the hotel room until he comes face to face with a tiger this is also seen in films like dodge ball. In away a journey is taken in the film but not in the stereotypical way of a road trip (due date) more a quest to find Doug and get him back in time for his wedding. There is also a close bond between the 3 main characters which goes beyond the film, they were friends before and say that “ doing a film together has just strengthened their bond”.
Slapstick comedy is also used in this film which appeals to the male audience for instance Mike Tyson punching Alan to the drum of Phil Collins, heavy drinking, gambling , strip clubs and being tasered are all something that the male audience would find funny but for some reason this film appeals to everyone that is the reason this film has been such a commercial hit as it does not push the boundaries into males humour but has just the right amount to keep the male audience entertained but not repulsing the female audience.
